Shrek the Musical coming to Shanghai

Program Code: 0909346130605003

Shrek the Musical, based a DreamWorks' animation film and created in London last year, will have 26 shows at the Shanghai Culture Square from July 13 to August 5.

The story is about a solitary ogre named Shrek, who is sent to rescue Princess Fiona by Lord Farquad and on the way Shrek meets a talking donkey who becomes his companion. The cast also include such popular fairytale characters as Gingerbread Man and Pinocchio.

London artists say that putting on costumes and makeup is a hell lot of work before the show begins. The actor for Shrek will have makeup silicone glued to his face piece by piece.

"It takes about an hour and fifteen minutes to put it all on," says Lukas Poost, who plays Shrek in the show.

Lord Farquad is also very difficult to play as the actor has to perform on his knees throughout the musical. The only time he is able to relax is in a dance scene.

"It took me about five weeks to get used to the balance of everything" explains Merritt David James, or the Lord Farquad.
