'2 Broke Girls' star charms in visit to city

Program Code: 0909346130805001

American actress Beth Behrs grabs everyone's attention when she enters the room. With her striking long legs, sunshine smile and aqua-blue eyes, the "2 Broke Girls" star dazzled on Thursday in an appearance in Shanghai.
The Pennsylvania native came into the limelight after starring as the riches-to-rags Caroline Channing in the acclaimed CBS sitcom "2 Broke Girls." Formerly a high-society girl, Caroline went broke after her father was jailed in a financial scheme, and she became a waitress in a Brooklyn diner where she met co-worker and roommate Max Black, also in her 20s, from a working-class family. The show chronicles their lives and how they struggle to start a cupcake business.
Created by Michael Patrick King, the genius behind the HBO series "Sex and the City," the light-hearted show has become popular for its savvy humor and outspoken, sometimes controversial, sexually based jokes. The show also wins the heart of Chinese viewers. The first two seasons had over 100 million views in Youku.com, a popular video streaming website in China.
Behrs danced with fans, showed her wacky singing talent and talked with reporters. Berhs said she was a true "broke girl" before she got the show.
"I had just graduated from the college, and shared an apartment with a friend. I was a true broke girl making mac and cheese for dinner," she said. Studying musical performance at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, Behrs began her acting career after getting a small role in a DVD film in 2009.
She said her positive personality and hard work, like Caroline's traits, got her the role. "She works very hard to get what she wants. I've always been a hard worker and I know that's what it takes to win success."
Q: What's coming up in the third season?
A: I will only know what happens when I read the script. … It's very sad to see Candy Andy and Caroline broke up. I love that story line. Ryan Hansen, who plays that character, is sweet and nice in real life. I don't think they are finished yet. Maybe they will come back together, hopefully.
Q: In the show, Caroline can't live without her pearl necklace. Do you have any must-have items?
A: Actually, I have this ring on but you can't really see it because it's secretly small. Kat Dennings, my co-star (as Max Black) gave it to me. And inside it says Behrs-Kat. Because my last name is Behrs and her name is Kat.
Q: Describe your style in real life.
A: I like classic, simple and also chic.
Q: There are many dirty plots and lines. Are they embarrassing?
A: Yes, I get embarrassed whenever I read it. It's hard to say out loud the first time. But once you rehearse it, you say it over and over again, and it becomes fun.
Q: What's your favorite line or part in the show?
A: The episode with the Amish boys where I dance is my favorite.
Q: What's the biggest challenge?
A: Lots of words and dialogues to learn, like paragraphs and paragraphs to play out. In Episode 10 of the first season, when you saw me in the locker room talking really fast, I got that (script) five minutes before we got on stage.
Q: Do you have plans to expand your career in musicals?
A: I've sung my whole life. And I would like to sing more and do a Broadway musical.
Q: Tell us about your future plans.
A: I just did "Monsters University," a prequel to "Monsters, Inc" (2001). She (Carrie Williams in "Monsters University") is a cartoon, very different from Caroline. She's purple and glows. She's mean, much meaner than Caroline. … I'd love to try different roles. … But I'm working 12 months on '2 Broke Girls'."
