Jail for selling duplicate pet food
A FORMER pet food salesman who opened an online store and sold fake branded products such as Royal Canin, Pro Plan and CATSAN for over 60,000 yuan (US$9,858) was sentenced to 10 months in jail and fined 40,000 yuan for counterfeiting, Qingpu District prosecutors’ office said yesterday.
Relishing the prospect of domestic pet food market, the man, surnamed Wang, 32, quit his job as a salesman in a pet food company and started to sell pet food on his own online store from April 2012.
He initially bought pet food from wholesalers but soon found a more profitable way by selling fake branded products.
He hired workers to fill the bags and sold these “branded pet food” at prices lower than the market price.
Wang was caught in his house in Qingpu District on March 20 last year.
Police seized pet food, packaging materials and sealing machines.
