Baby falls after maid dozes off at work
A MATERNITY maid at a high-end mother and infant care center has left the company after a baby she was caring for fell and hit her head when the woman dozed off.
Carebay Maternity Care Service admitted the accident occurred in a branch on Taolin Road in the Pudong New Area on September 16.
The company said the maternity maid — known as a yuesao in Chinese — was holding the baby when she fell asleep on a sofa.
The child had a coin-sized bruise on her head and was taken to Children’s Hospital of Shanghai, where doctors said she was fine.
Her parents said this should not have happened in a center that cost them 100,000 yuan (US$16,340) for a 38-day stay.
Carebay said the maid is qualified with 10 years’ experience and fell asleep as she was tired but chose not to take a rest.
She was distraught afterwards and agreed to terminate her contract, the company added.
