Disney-decor trains to run on Metro extension to Shanghai Disneyland

METRO Line 11 will have several Disney-decorated trains on the subway extension to take visitors from Luoshan Road Station to Shanghai Disneyland, a Metro official said today.

About three among the total of 60 trains on Line 11 will have Disney elements painted on and within the trains, said Zhang Jianbin, the chief planner with the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the city’s subway operator, speaking to legislators on the sidelines of the annual session of the Shanghai People’s Congress.

“Line 11 won’t totally become a special Disney Line like the one in Hong Kong because it will mainly serve its normal passengers,” Zhang said.

To serve the theme park, Metro Line 11 will have an extension from Luoshan Road Station to Disneyland, with stations at Kangqiao Road E,, Hengxin Road and Disneyland. The extension will be completed and put into operation in 2015, ahead of Disneyland’s opening.

Passengers who change trains at the Luoshan Road Station will have a chance to ride on the one of the three Disney-decor trains, he added.

The 9.2-kilometer extension will include 7.7 kilometers above ground but the final stretch will be underground. Passengers will enter the park through an underground passageway.

The under-construction Disneyland Metro station will feature a blue color scheme that highlights fantasy elements as was selected by a public poll on its decor.

According to a plan unveiled with the city’s top planning body, the Disneyland station will be semi-underground, with a skylight to bring natural light indoors. It will be surrounded by an artificial lake, trees and shrubs.
