16 new bus routes for Metro Line 16 launch

SIXTEEN new bus routes are being established in the Pudong New Area to link with Metro Line 16, which is set to start running by the end of the year.

The first phase of Line 16 runs from Luoshan Road, the terminus of Line 11, to Dishui Lake in the Nanhui area.

Pudong traffic authorities said all 11 stations on the new line will link with bus services.

In addition to the new bus routes, 12 existing services will reroute to include stops by stations.

Buses will link the stations to residential areas, tourism spots and university campuses, said officials.

Trial runs of empty trains have begun on the first phase of Line 16.

When the line first goes into service, it will be operated by 24 trains.

In the future, Line 16 will extend to Longyang Road Station to connect with Line 2 and 7, as well as with Line 13’s Huaxia Road M. Station.

Meanwhile, a rather different mode of transport is being proposed by Zhoushan City in neighboring Zhejiang Province, which is planning a seaplane link to Shanghai’s Dishui Lake.

Wang Zhongzhi, deputy mayor of Zhoushan, said at a high-level meeting recently that the link might be realized within two years.

A seaplane journey between Dishui Lake and Zhoushan would take around 20 minutes, with a proposed one-way price of around 1,000 yuan (US$164).
