Fun, food and amusement at Readers’ Day

Representatives of foreign consulates and hundreds of readers joined Shanghai Daily’s first Readers’ Day event yesterday at Kerry Parkside in the Pudong New Area.

The event kicked off at 11am under a bright blue sky.

There was a band on hand playing Western pop songs, an Israeli dance group along with traditional Chinese folk artists doing sugar painting and dough modeling. Ticket holders also received free drinks and snacks.

The highlight of the afternoon was the award ceremony for the iDEALShanghai International Children’s Painting Competition. Twenty participants won prizes.

Mong Koo from Shanghai Community International School and Lucas Cao from YK Pao School won the gold award for the junior school group and senior school group, respectively.

The competition was launched in September, inviting students aged seven to 15 at international schools and international departments of public schools to depict Shanghai.

A number of events were for children. There was a clown making balloon animals, people dressed up in animal costumes and face painting. There were also lucky draws with many prizes handed out.
