Marine suppliers bullish
The 17 Group of Norway, an association of maritime suppliers, expects a 40 percent rise in combined sales in China next year with more high-end ship types being built here.
“The overall shipbuilding industry is not doing well amid a difficult financial situation, but there are positive signs in certain segments,” said Bjorn Johnsen, chairman of the 17 Group and sales and marketing director of Nyborg AS which makes ventilation fans and equipment for ships.
China’s pursuit of oil and gas offshore is fueling demand for more high-end and high-value vessels that could make equipment produced by the association members more attractive, Johnsen said yesterday during the Marintec China 2013 conference. He added that the 40 percent growth target for the body is “realistic.”
Hans J. Koblischke, China sales manager for JETS Vacuum AS, which supplies half of the world’s vacuum flush toilets for ships, said China revenue in 2013 is four times last year’s.
