US woman gives birth to baby at work, stuffs newborn in desk drawer

A Michigan woman has been charged in the slaying of her newborn son whose body was found hidden in her desk drawer at work, US news website fox59.com reported.

According to WDIV, Kimberly Pappas, 25, gave birth to a baby boy on March 31 in the restroom at a suburban Detroit freight management business. Pappas allegedly cut the umbilical cord and put the baby and placenta in her desk drawer, the report said.

Police and emergency crews responded after her co-workers discovered significant amounts of blood in the restroom.

Papas “indicated she had a miscarriage and that the remains were inside her desk,” reportedly said police Detective Kevin Crittenden. “The baby was still warm when rescue personnel found him.”

The suspect and child were transported to a hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead, the website reported. But contrary to Papas’ claims that it was a miscarriage, medical examine found the full-term baby died from asphyxiation.

Pappas was arraigned in District Court on charges of felony murder, first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree child abuse.
