TUNISIANS went to the polls on Sunday to choose the 217 members of the first elected parliament since the civil uprising in 2011.

The polls opened at 7 am (0600 GMT), and are to close at 6 p.m.(1700 GMT).

About five million Tunisian citizens are eligible to vote in 11,000 polling stations in 27 districts across the country.

Voters would choose among 15,652 candidates.

The voting process has already begun for Tunisians living abroad since Friday in six districts.
