Pokemon Go help foils carjack in Australia
An Australian man playing Pokemon Go has saved a Queensland woman from a failed carjacking attempt at a Pokestop.
Queensland state police on Tuesday said that 48-year-old woman was sitting in her car when a Caucasian lady in her late 20s appeared out of nowhere and forcibly removed from her vehicle, something reminiscent of a violent video game.
The frustrated lady carjacker then became aggressive and started hitting the owner of the vehicle with a blunt object causing her to suffer from multiple stitches on her face when she could not start the car, Queensland police said.
The assaulted women who survived the attack later said on social media that she was fortunate to have been at a "Pokestop" when she was attacked by the carjacker.
"Thankfully I am on a Pokestop and a man coming to catch Pokemon saved me and called (the) police etc."
It was reported that the woman was sent to a local hospital for treatment.
Pokemon Go has proved hugely popular down under with countless reports alluding to "zombie-like" players roaming the streets to catch the digital critters.
The ruckus has caused local authorities to issue warnings of where play after many local residents in key PokeStops complained about increased foot traffic and noise at all hours of the night. Court authorities have also issued warnings to players not to enter court precincts as the possession and use of a recording device, aka phone, is illegal.
