'Modern Family' makes Emmy history

"MODERN Family" made Emmy history on Monday, winning the title of best comedy series for a record-breaking fifth year in a row at television's equivalent of the Oscars.

The hit show beat rivals "The Big Bang Theory," "Louie," "Orange Is the New Black," "Silicon Valley" and "Veep."

It is the only television show to date that has won five consecutive "Outstanding Comedy Series" Emmy awards.

Earlier in the evening at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Ty Burrell, who plays desperately-trying-to-be-cool dad Phil Dunphy in the highly decorated comedy, picked up the award for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy.

He won the same prize in 2011.
