MADONNA has been talking about the benefits of exercising. The award-winning artist suffered a fall during a performance at the recent BRIT Awards in London, and she claimed her fitness regime saved her from any serious injury.

She also talked about her new album and her collaboration with a rapper who she said is not always as smooth as he makes out.

The 56-year-old tumbled during a live performance after her dancers tugged at her flowing cape, dragging her down three steps. She got up and continued her performance of "Living for Love."

"Yeah. If I wasn't in good shape. Tuck and roll. Yeah. No, no I attribute a lot of the fact that I came out alright, and, like, just because I'm in good shape," she said.

The avid fitness fan said she enjoys listening to hip-hop, house and dance music while exercising. She also likes to mix things up when she is making her own music and says her new album "Rebel Heart" is a combination of both her rebellious and romantic sides.

"I wanted to explore the two, I would say, most prevalent sides of me, which are, like, the rebellious side of me and the romantic side of me. I found myself writing in either one direction or the other and I thought there's, like, kind of, a strange disparity between them."

Madonna collaborated with rapper Kanye West on the new record, which she said was a challenge at times

"Just think about his personality, which is, you know, engaging; he's highly intelligent, very aware of what's going on in the world, and, you know, easily distracted, and, you know, sometimes it was hard to get him to focus, because he's like Mr. Multitasker. Sometimes I had to like stand in front of the door like this 'You're not going anywhere. We have to finish this song right now,’" she said.

"Rebel Heart" is Madonna's 13th studio album. It was released on March 6 and has been met with critical acclaim.
