American rock star Jon Bon Jovi Thursday released a music video singing a popular Chinese love song, "The Moon Represents My Heart," before the Qixi festival or Chinese Valentine's Day, local media reported.

In the video, Jon sang the romanic soulful ballad in a studio in standard Chinese.

To woo his Chinese fans, Jon "put a lot of thought on choosing the right song," said a statement on his website.

"The Moon Represents My Heart" was first sung in 1972. "A love song with a waltz-like lilt," it became one of the most popular songs in China after Taiwanese pop singer Teresa Teng performed it in the late 1970s.

Jon will go to Beijing to hold his first time show there on September 17. His Asian tour will also include Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

Born in 1962, Jon is a singer, songwriter and producer. He is best known as the founder of rock bank Bon Jovi, which was formed in 1983. Over 130 million of his albums have been sold across his three-decade reign.
