3 soldiers killed, 14 wounded in PKK rocket attack in SE Turkey

THREE soldiers of the Turkish security forces were killed and 14 others wounded on Sunday in a rocket attack launched by the rebels of the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey, said a Turkish military statement.

A group of PKK militants fired rockets against the Turkish troops in Nusaybin town of Mardin province bordering Syria on Sunday morning during the Turkish military operations against the PKK, killing three Turkish soldiers and wounding 14 others, said the statement issued by the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces.

The wounded were taken to hospital for medical treatment, said the statement.

Since a two-year cease-fire between the government and the PKK disintegrated last July, Turkish security forces have launched a major campaign against the PKK in southeast Turkey, leaving over 260 members of Turkey's security forces and thousands of PKK members dead.

The PKK, waging its separatist war against Turkey since 1984, is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
