10 injured as blast hits security forces' convoy in NW Pakistan
TEN security personnel were injured when their convoy came under attack in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of South Waziristan on Saturday afternoon, local media reported.
ARY News said that the convoy which was on its way from South Waziristan to neighboring Dera Ismail Khan district was targeted by a remote controlled blast.
Some unknown militants blew up the roadside fixed explosive materials as soon as the convoy passed by it in Sarokai area of South Waziristan, a semi-autonomous tribal area along Pakistan- Afghanistan border.
The injured soldiers were shifted to a nearby hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Security personnel cordoned off the area and a probe into the incident is under way.
South Waziristan is one of the country's seven tribal agencies near the Afghanistan border which are rife with insurgents and are alleged to be strongholds of Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives.
The area was the main stronghold for the Pakistani Taliban until the military launched a large offensive against them in 2009.
Though the area has been cleared from insurgents, but they still carry out sporadic attacks against security forces and public.
