Sanitation Man 'Guards' Soldier On Duty In Rain With Umbrella

2016/06/14

Soldier must stand duty whether it rains or not. But a soldier – a symbol of discipline and sacrifice – does so for the larger society. That one such soldier got full recognition for the same was evident when a sanitation worker in Harbin pulled out his umbrella to shelter the soldier from heavy rains.

The photo of the sanitation man Zhou Gang holding an umbrella for a soldier on duty at the city’s Central Street around 7:30pm on June 10 while heavy rain lashed the city has gone viral over social media.

In the photo, pedestrians are taking shelter from rain along the street or carrying umbrellas.

At that time, Zhou stood behind the soldier and covered the soldier with his umbrella.

Moved by Zhou's kindness, quite a few passers-by took pictures and shared them online.

Netizens were moved by this scene. One netizen commented:

Salute to the soldier. Wish the sanitation worker a peacful life!

But some also questioned whether it was a show for publicity.

A netizen refuted:

I don't understand why there are so many people having such a dark mentality. Why can't they simply accept this beautiful scene?

Another said:

On this busy street, with so many pedestrians, I probably wouldn't have the gut to take out my umbrella to shelter the soldier, because I don't want other people think I did it for cheap publicity, even if I, from the bottom of my heart, only wanted to shelter him. So I give a thumb up to the sanitation worker!
