Man Sells 'Bear Hug' to Save Son with Leukemia

A man in Hefei, Anhui Province, dressed himself as a bear and sold hugs on the street in hope of raising money to save his 3-year-old son who's suffering leukemia.

Photos taken on March 29 show that the man, Feng Kai, wearing a bear outfit, carried a paperboard reading each hug sells for 10 yuan (US$1.45) to raise funds for his sick son.

However, few passers-by came up to embrace him – most of them just stopped to watch or brushed past. It is reported that only seven people "bought" the hug and he got more than 100 yuan in donation in three days.

His son, Feng Haorao, was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2015, shortly after his birth. Relatives tried to persuade the couple to give up medical treatment because of the huge financial pressure, but they persisted.

In the past two years, the little boy received a couple of treatments including chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant, which cost a large amount of money.

The father felt helpless as the family has been heavily in debt, and he currently still needs to pay for the high medical expense that charges over 1,000 yuan each day. So he decided to sell "bear hug."

After his story was reported by "乙图" (yi_photos) on March 29, many netizens were deeply touched by his perseverance and donated money for the kid. By 4pm on March 30, Feng had received a total of 180,604 yuan in donation from people across the country.
