Chinese Passenger Helps To Restrain Passenger on Flight
A Chinese passenger has been hailed as a hero after he helped to restrain a man who attempted to break into the cockpit of an international flight heading from Addis Ababa to Beijing on March 18.
Cao Hongguo, who had taken medicine for cold and was taking a nap, was woken up by an airhostess’ cry for help on Ethiopian Airlines's Flight ET604. He saw a man kicking and hitting the cockpit door.
Cao grabbed the man who fell on the deck. The captain and two other people came to Cao’s help. Twenty minutes later, the man was tied up but he managed to break free and fought with them again. He was restrained again and tied up.
Cao suffered minor bruises on his face during the scuffle.
The flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Pakistan's Lahore Airport, where the police escorted the man off the plane. Media reports said he had been fired from his job.
The plane had over 200 passengers on board.
Later, the captain of the flight wrote a thank you letter, saying Cao was "instrumental" in helping the air crew to get to Beijing safely.
Cao is a senior project manager at AVIC-INTL Project Engineering Company. His colleagues were proud of him and shared his brave act on WeChat. Chinese netizens also hailed him as a hero on social media.
However, a modest Cao said anybody in a similar situation would do the same.
