Twin Brothers Reunited With Family After 44 Years
Twin brothers have been reunited with their family in Shaoxing, east China’s Zhejiang Province, 44 years after they were adopted by different families at just three-months old.
The twins, Ma Jianhua and Li Rongfu, were born in 1972 and given up for adoption because of financial straits in their birth family. Two families in Sanmenxia, central China’s Henan Province, eventually adopted them, Qianjiang Evening News reported.
Though they lived just 500 meters from each other, they didn't know each other until they met in middle school.
Because of their resemblance, their teacher sat them together.
Though their adopted parents wanted to hide the true and discouraged them from playing together, they became good friends. They also discovered that their identification numbers differed only at the last digit.
After graduation, Li worked at a local department store while Ma joined the army in Beijing.
Although they were apart, they stayed in touch for over a decade.
Ma became depressed when his adoptive parents and sister died.
In 2006, Li's adoptive father finally told Ma the truth that he still had a twin brother.
He also showed Ma photos of two babies taken in March, 1973, when the boys would have been six months old.
After Ma and Li became aware of their blood relationship, they kept their knowledge secret out of consideration for their adoptive families.
On July 2, a relative from the boys’ birth family contacted Li after seeing the information he posted online about his situation.
Finally, the twins found they had three brothers and three sisters who were also looking for them, but their birth parents had died several years ago.
On July 24, Li and Ma came back to their hometown where they were warmly welcomed by relatives and neighbors.
Standing in front of mother's tomb, the twin brothers broke down in tears.
