Penniless Father Leaves Hand Grenade to Son in His Will

A son was shocked when his dying father handed him a grenade on his deathbed.

The penniless dad had nothing of monetary value to leave his son, only an heirloom that, in a former life, was once used to kill in a war.

The father turned to his son and said: “I'm dying. I have nothing for you, but this thing you must preserve very carefully." And then he took out the hand grenade and passed it over to his son. The distressed and restless son was left with a dilemma. He did not want to let his dead father down if he threw the grenade away but at the same time he was worried it might explode.

Uncertain of what to do he rang the police and asked them for advice. They decided it would be in the best interests of everyone concerned if he handed it over to them.

The Public Security Bureau of Huaibei's Suixi County shared the incident on its official Weibo account on Monday.

Chinese netizens had mixed reactions to the story. Some speculated that the heirloom was locked inside the grenade. One social media user suggested the police should dismantle the grenade and hand the outer shell back so the son can keep it as a memory of his father. Others began to worry about the bigger picture and their own mortality, speculating on what they would leave their children when they died.
