Another ill-designed tip-off box ires netizens
A tip-off box at the labor security supervision complaints center in Baoji, Shaanxi Province has been moved after complaints it was unreachable.
A netizen posted a picture of the box on Weibo on April 25, saying: "Look at the tip-off box at the complaint center, 3 meters above the ground. Was it designed specially for Yao Ming?"
Yao played for the Shanghai Sharks before moving to the NBA in the United States where, at 2.29 meters, he was once the tallest active player.
In the post, the box can be seen installed high on the wall outside the door, with a surveillance camera nearby.
A web user joked: "Those who want to report cases should take a ladder with them or hire a person accustomed to working aloft."
A center director said the box has been seldom used since it was installed in 2008. As more and more people choose to tip off via hotlines or the web, the box doesn’t get any letters.
"But it will remain," the director added.
As some netizens complained about the surveillance camera near the box, the director explained it was installed just two years ago, so it wasn't intended to monitor whistleblowers.
The center has moved the box to a lower place, where it is easier to reach and no longer covered by the camera.
After the anti-corruption drama "In the Name of the People" became a hit, more and more sub-standard public services are being exposed.
In the TV series, the service hall of a government agency was in the spotlight for its ill-designed service counters. People had to squat or kneel to be served at the low windows.
Similar situations also widely exist in real life.
A social insurance service agency in Zhengzhou, Henan Province changed its office design after images of the office's poorly designed service windows were posted online.
Problems with the service windows at the Real Estate Trading Center in Ji'an, in Jiangxi Province were also exposed online.
It also happened at hospitals in Beijing, Hubei's Wuhan, Guangdong's Zhaoqing and elsewhere.
Besides service windows, a suggestion box was placed too high at the gate of the Tourism Bureau of Yiliang County in the southwestern province of Yunnan.
And a signboard at a bus stop in Kunming, capital of Yunnan was also positioned so high that commuters couldn't see the words on it clearly.
