College Student's Invention Goes Viral
A college student in Nanning City, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, invented a breathing apparatus to help protect him from secondhand smoke.
He posted his invention on his Weibo account, after which it soon went viral.
He made use of a small fan to bring in fresh air from outside the dormitory to his “helmet,” made from a cardboard box, through a ventilation pipe made by plastic bags. He came up with the idea in his dormitory, where he is the only nonsmoker.
He said the invention also has its shortcomings. He can’t use it in the winter because the cold air from the fan will numb his face.
Some web users made the following comments:
I imagine it does little to help and he still ends up breathing most of the smoke.
Shouldn’t his roommates smoke outdoors? It’s basic public decency, isn’t it?
Doesn’t he get sweaty?
I advise him to change to a different dormitory.
Fire safety seems like an issue.
