Man Goes Off-Contact Seeking Peace, Ends Up Fined
A man who deliberately went off-contact in a tourist attraction had to pay a price for doing so.
The man, surnamed Zou, together with his four friends, headed for the Heizhugou scenic spot in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on May 3. Their adventure ended after one of them got injured.
But Zou had his own plan. On May 6, Zou alone went back to Heizhugou but soon left for somewhere else.
He faked getting lost by using a new SIM card on his cellphone with a new number, and began his journey, which covered Chengdu, Aba, Ganzi in Sichuan and Linzhi, Lhasa in Tibet.
After Zou went off-contact, his family was worried and hired dozens of people to search for him. The Heizhugou scenic spot administration also organized several searches.
Apparently no one was aware that Zou was not at Heizhugou at all!
The search for Zou went on until May 22, when Zou was confirmed safe and sound in Lhasa.
His family went to Lhasa to meet him and Zou's wife confirmed her husband's safety on WeChat.
Later on May 25, Zou’s father contacted the administration to thank and apologize for all the trouble they caused.
Zou said he has long been suffering mentally and physically, and wanted to seek tranquility from the secular life. So, he wanted to be “off-contact” for some time.
While Zou's unannounced and absurd adventure had already cost his family nearly 200,000 yuan, now it was the turn of the administration to complain saying it deployed thousands of staff to search for him.
Zou faced a compensation of up to 63,000 yuan.
