A video showing pupils at a primary school in Baoding, Hebei Province stopping to listen to the national anthem and salute with eyes toward the national flag while entering the school became a hit on social media.

At the beginning of the footage, pupils can be seen walking into the school gradually. But when the national anthem is heard and the flag begins to rise, everyone including pupils and teachers stopped immediately. They stood straight and raised their eyes to the flag.

When the flag-raising ceremony came to an end, they continued on into the teaching buildings.

Netizens were greatly touched by the video. Some people applauded the school for their good patriotic education. Others said it reminded them of their own good school memories.

One comment said: "When I was a child, I also did like them. Whenever I heard the national anthem, I wouldn't move, no matter where I was. At the same time, I told myself in my heart that I must be a useful person in the future."

The headmaster, surnamed Bai, said in an interview on May 24 that she was glad to see so many comments online full of positive energy.

"No drill and no rehearsal. It truly presented the daily work of the school," she said.

As some netizens asked why pupils didn't line up for the flag-raising ceremony, Bai explained the school only conducts formal ceremonies on Mondays. On other school days, they simplify the ceremony with only flag-raisers and bearers.
