‘Pi’ director pushes frame-rate envelop
DIRECTOR Ang Lee, in a video announcement on Wednesday at Sony’s CinemaCon presentation , said that he was shooting the adaptation of Ben Fountain’s novel “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” in an unprecedented 120-frames-per-second and in 3D. Lee talked about the film, which is his first since winning an Oscar for directing “Life of Pi,” on its set in Georgia. Its ultra-high frame rate is aimed to pushing ahead on the filming technical front, according to Sony executives. The frame rate is more than twice the rate at which Peter Jackson shot the last two Hobbit films. “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” which is about a soldier’s experience in modern-day military combat, is set for release on November 11, 2016.
