Festival of French and Chinese talent

LEADING works from Chinese and French art and cultural talent are being showcased at 2015 Croisements Festival events in Shanghai.

Organized by the French embassy in China and its consulates around the country, the festival covers everything from art exhibitions to music concerts, dance performances to film productions.

Shanghai is among 30 Chinese cities hosting the event.

The Amarillis Ensemble, one of the most on-the-pulse baroque groups in France, will perform musical comedy “La Double Coquette” on Tuesday at the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, and jazz fans can catch French band Juveniles at the Shanghai Strawberry Festival during the May Day holiday.

From June, new media installations by Chinese and French artists will be on display at the month-long exhibition “Light” at the Minsheng Museum.

And an exhibition of work by the late celebrated Shanghai visual artist Chen Zhen opens on May 31 at Rockbund Art Museum.

Meanwhile, inspired by Russian ballet dancer Vaslav Nijinsky and his famed work “The Afternoon of a Faun,” French choreographer David Drouard will stage a solo dance with a giant bear at the Power Station of Art on May 22.

And French modern dance prodigy Kader Attou will present “Roots” with 10 dancers at Daning Theater.

Also expect offbeat works by eight French designers using culinary ingredients at the Shanghai International Industrial Design Center.

The festival ends on July 10.
