Chilean culture makes a splash with range of events
AN art exhibit featuring Margarita Dittborn’s photographic works opens on August 8. It will last for eight months.
A private showing of her art takes place on August 8 at Undefined, an art gallery and cafe at Moghanshan 50 on Moganshan Road.
“The opening is not just about Margarita’s works, of course it’s the main theme, but it is also about Chilean culture. Guests will also be able to enjoy some Chilean wine and food.”
This is the first year the consulate has organized a Chilean Cultural Week in Shanghai.
“We are very excited about it and we hope we can do it annually,” Antonietta said. “It seems like it’s going to be really amazing and very fun so I hope everybody can come to the events and enjoy the small taste of Chilean culture.”
She also expressed hope that they can organize an even bigger event next year.
Bilateral relations between China and Chile have progressed exponentially since the establishment of diplomatic relations in December 1970. Chile also happens to be the first country to sign a free trade agreement with China.
And now it will be complemented with some cultural exchange. “The consulate of Chile in Shanghai is working more on business relations with China, especially with Shanghai, and Chile and China have a really good business relationship,” Antonieta said.
“But it goes deeper. We want to add something more in our relationship and we think culture is a really nice way to know each other,” she added. “In this case, I hope we can make it and we’re starting here.”
