Fashion with a US-China taste

THE Council of Fashion Designers of America recently partnered with Suntchi Fashion (Shanghai) Brand & Technology Co Ltd with an aggressive plan to expand American fashion’s influence in China using Suntchi’s branding platform.

The five-year partnership will promote bilateral cooperation and more projects will be launched to make it possible for American designs and brands to meet with Chinese market and brands more often and frequently, promoting the creativity of brands and improving sales.

Steven Kolb, the president and chief executive officer of CFDA, said: “For the common goal and mission, we reached consensus on many key issues, thus signing a contract in New York for further cooperation. Generating new ideas in the process of communication is just like falling in love.

“China is a great potential as the biggest consumer market in the world. The CFDA from the US, to be honest, is new to China and is unfamiliar with China. I think our cooperation will set up a bridge.”

The CFDA is a non-profit trade association whose membership consists of more than 500 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry and accessory designers.

“They balance business and design well and enjoy outstanding operating capacity.

“They are also trendsetters in the global industry. And their creativity is impressive.”

Kolb said China has the biggest consumer market and the strongest purchasing power globally.

Major brands such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs and Donna Karen have long-established reputations in the Chinese market.

“China’s new generation is experiencing an evolution in its consumption habits. I think there are a great number of opportunities for both China and the US in cooperation in the fashion industry.” The cooperation between the CDFA and Suntchi includes designers, brands, supply chains distributions, capital, New York Fashion Week and other global influential projects which involve every part of the fashion industry in both countries.
