Dedicated followers of fashion designers

PERCY Lau is the young designer behind her namesake eyewear brand, Percy Lau, which is known for contemporary and forward thinking design concepts. The boundary-pushing designs won a prize at the International Talent Support YKK Award in 2013. Since her brand was founded, the designs have made a significant impression. Percy, who studied fashion in Central Saint Martin, is now based in Hong Kong.

My personal style is easy and chilled. I don’t want to spend too much time on deciding what to wear every morning. I’ll just wear whatever makes me feel myself and comfortable. However, I super enjoy changing hair colors and eye brow colors.

The best outfit I’ve ever worn was a pair of old fashion Nike sneakers. I walk a lot. They are soft and comfortable. They are the best.

I follow the fashion trends from the 90s — colorful T-shirts, jeans, weird hair styles. I like weird things. I think they’re cool.

I usually wear my designer friends’ brands a lot. Since I was in a fashion school at my university, I have many designer friends. When I wear them, I feel like my friends are with me, and I love that.

My favorite fashion brand is Maison Martin Margiela. I see the brand as a kind of philosophy, and what it delivers to me is very attractive.

The designers I most admire is Gijs Bakker. He redefined the idea of jewelry. Apart from his wonderful mind-challenging works, I also really admire his attitude. He is still teaching and making jewelry even though he is almost 80. He’s the figure that I really look up to, especially for me as an accessory designer. He’s the role model for me.

The style icon I look up to is Mavis Fan and her style in 90s. She is a pop singer from Taiwan: shaved hair, colorful T-shirts, colorful eyewear, jeans and sneakers. She was quite popular in the 90s, and now she has become less main stream I guess. But she’s still cool, I wish I could have gone skateboarding with her back in 90s.

The fashion item I’m eyeing next is a pair of new sneakers. I walk too much so I think I’ll always be looking for a new pair of sneakers.

I collect candles, handcrafting machines, and also eyewear from other brands.

My grooming staples are the products from MUJI, very simple and good for Asian skin care. I didn’t really spend a lot of time getting to know about skin care or beauty-related stuff, but I think I’ll start at some point in the future.

The most memorable place I’ve been to was a little water tower near my home. I observe stars there. Not many people know about that place, it’s like a secret place of my own. I usually go there when I feel too stressed or frustrated.

The best thing about Shanghai are friends! Most of my best, talented friends are here! I feel so encouraged when I’m with them. I think friends are really important when you’re in a new city. It’s quite hard to build a new life without friends. And my friends here in Shanghai are working on their own brands so well. I am really proud of them. I hope one day we’ll all be successful.

Pierre Pailhas moved to Shanghai seven and half years ago and started his own business creating his own brand of foie gras. He has created a Shi Wei online retail shop, offering premium artisan delicacies from all around the world. He writes poetry, raps and has sang at music festivals over the last three years.

My personal style is classical yet casual chic. I like to keep my style sober instead of loud with a classical European touch.

The best outfit I’ve ever worn for a special occasion was a custom-made golden suit designed by myself for the wedding of my best friend in France. It was a unique piece that drew much attention at the wedding.

I usually shop for clothes and accessories in selected boutiques in France, Spain and Italy. European fittings suit me better but I also like to make custom-made suits and shirts in Shanghai’s fabric market as I love the feel of fabric and appreciate the artisan behind it.

My favorite fashion brands include Saint Laurent and Finsburry. I’m a big fan of nice shoes.

The designer I most admire is Yves Saint Laurent. He is a legend and his created style is still a classic today. It’s something you can pass down to the next generation.

The last item I added to my wardrobe was the suit from Zara, which is easy to match with other items and elegant for daily wear.

The fashion item I’m eyeing next is based on the daily discovery. I don’t like to anticipate a special item but I like to find it in a random way.

I collect little artifacts such as a little rock I found during snorkeling or a Buddha statue from China during my travels.

My signature aftershave is Christian Dior L’homme intense. I’ve used this cologne for eight years and never got tired of it.

The best souvenir I brought home is a picture of a stunning moment of the sunrise on the sea of clouds in the valley from Guizhou Province.

The most memorable place I’ve traveled to in the past was Goa in India. It was a cultural meeting point where you can find churches sitting next to Indian temples. The place has a mystic vibe with a balance between the natural elements among sea, mountain and animals.

The last book I read was The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.

Except Shanghai, I would love to live in a beautiful island in the Philippines.
