Pet fair promises products, prizes and cute critters

THE Asia Pet Fair, an annual trade event and celebration of all things pet-related, will be held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center in Pudong New Area later this month. The event will be open to industry professionals between August 26 and 28. Admission opens to the general public on August 28 and 29.
This year, the 18th edition, the fair will highlight more than 700 pet-related product manufactures and service providers.
Meanwhile, a pet gala will showcase a variety of dog and cat breeds, as well as aquatic animals and exotic pets such as raccoons and alpacas.
During the fair, the aquatic animal zone will distribute 5,000 fighting fishes and 16 sets of small fish tanks. Everyday, one lucky person can also win a 90-centimeter-long fish tank worth 11,288 yuan (US$1,765) and the first 40 visitors of the day can get free terrestrial hermit crabs.
The pet fair will also feature a dog pageant, attended by more than 200 pure-bred dogs from around the world, while the cat pageant will showcase about 200 precious cats worth over 10 million yuan.
A dog sports meet is open to dogs of any breed and includes racing, jumping and other competitions.
Date: August 26-28 (for pet industry visitors), August 29-30 (for the public), 9am-4:30pm.
Admission: 50 yuan for the public
