Q: High-ranking public transport officials have been told to take the bus or Metro to work every 22nd day of the month. Do you think the ``No Car Day'' will work?

Xie Jiashu 53 Shanghai traffic assistant |
“Working as a traffic assistant, I see traffic jams and breath gas fumes everyday. I like the idea of ``No Car Day'' very much. I'm not sure whether it will work, but it's worth a try.” |

Fu Bingsheng 51 Shanghai traffic assistant |
“It's ridiculous to have a ``No Car Day.'' It won't work at all. The only way to reduce vehicle emissions and relieve traffic jams is to control the number of license plates.” |

Wang Youfu 43 Jiangsu Province businessman |
“I only have a moped and always breath in gas fumes. I hope to have a car and I will drive it everyday.” |

Gu Jinhan 20 Shanghai student |
“It's a good idea but won't have much effect, I think. Once you have a car, you are not willing to take a bus any more like me. Buses and the Metro are too crowded.” |

Wang Qi 22 Shanghai unemployed |
“Our family has a car but we hardly ever use it. To us, taking the Metro is more convenient. ``No Car Day'' seems to suit us.” |

I think at least it is necessary for official to get in touch with the nitty-gritty of the daily commute. I just wish it woundn't turn out to be another grandstanding for those officials
