Paddlers defend team title at Asian Championships
POWERHOUSE China duly retained the men’s team title by beating South Korea 3-0 in the final at the Asian Championships in Wuxi yesterday.
It was the 21st men’s team trophy lifted by China in a total of 23 editions of the continental tournament, and the 10th in a row. Without Grand Slam winner Zhang Jike in the lineup as he battles an ankle injury, the Chinese side, led by world No. 1 and Olympic champion Ma Long, and including second-ranked Fan Zhendong and world No. 3 Xu Xin, was still too strong for the Koreans who fielded Jang Woo-jin, Lee Sang-su and Jeong Sang-eun.
