Fan defends Asian men’s singles crown in Wuxi
DEFENDING champion Fan Zhendong ended Jeong Sang-eun’s giant-killing run yesterday, beating the Chinese-born Korean 3-0 for men’s singles glory at the Asian table tennis championships in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.
The 20-year-old world No. 2 denied the 27-year-old Jeong a late comeback and rounded up the final 11-5, 11-5, 11-8. It was an 8th straight trophy in men’s singles for all-time leading China, which has pocketed 20 titles out of 23 editions of the continental tourney. The hosts also won the women’s doubles crown as Zhu Yuling and Chen Meng, the 2013 winners, beat compatriots Wang Manyu and Chen Ke 11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9 in the final.
