China enjoys easy ride to finals
DEFENDING champion China overpowered Chinese Taipei 3-0 yesterday to advance to the finals of the world team championships in Tokyo.
Xu Xin set the tone for China with an 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 win over Chen Chien-an in the opening match at Yoyogi National Gymnasium. Ma Long beat Chuang Chih-yuan 11-9, 13-11, 11-8, before Zhang Jike overcame Huang Sheng-Sheng 11-6, 10-12, 11-3, 11-6 to seal the win for the tournament favorites.
In the women’s bracket, China beat Singapore 3-0 to advance to the finals. Li Xiaoxia beat Feng Tianwei 8-11, 11-8, 11-5 and 11-7. Ding Ning and Zhu Yuling both finished their matches in three games to earn China their seventh consecutive win of the tournament.
Germany beat Japan 3-1 to set up the men’s final clash against China while Japan beat China’s Hong Kong by the same scoreline to reach women’s final.
