Russia sets new 4x50 relay short-course world record
RUSSIA set a new world record in the men’s 4x50-meter medley relay in the first event of the second day of the world short-course swimming championships in Doha, Qatar.
A blistering freestyle leg of 20.62 seconds by Evgeny Sedov brought the Russian quartet home in 1:32.78 to cut 0.87 seconds off the mark set by Italy at last year’s European short-course championships in Herning, Denmark. It is the fourth world record of the meet after Spaniard Mireia Belmonte’s pioneering efforts in the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley which was followed by the efforts of the Netherlands women’s 4x200 freestyle relay.
