Torres dreams of league title with Atleti

FERNANDO Torres says he has only one dream left in his professional career: winning the Spanish league title with his beloved Atletico Madrid.

“It’s my home and I’m happy to be back here (Atletico). I have won many titles with the national team and other clubs. Now I want to win as many titles for Atletico as I can,” the Spaniard said.

“I think I can still play a very long time for the club. I will retire with Atletico, from where I started,” added the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker, who returned to Atletico from AC Milan at the end of last year.

Torres spoke on the eve of Atletico’s match against local side Shanghai SIPG at Shanghai Stadium in the Wanda International Football tournament.

The 2014 La Liga champion’s coach Diego Simeone will meet an old acquaintance in Sven-Goran Eriksson, his SIPG counterpart. Simeone was a key part of Eriksson’s Lazio side which won the Italian league and cup double in 2000 and Swede heaped praise on the Argentinian. “He was a technically skillful midfielder who could read the game well. So we could tell he would be a good coach... Five titles in four years, very well done!”

SIPG will be without injured Davi and Tobias Hysen, as well as four national players who are competing for China in the ongoing East Asian Cup. Dario Conca will lead the team.
