Shenhua’s CSL match against Shandong postponed till September

SHANGHAI Greenland Shenhua’s CSL match against Shandong Luneng, originally scheduled for Saturday, will now be played in September, the Chinese Football Association announced yesterday.

The CFA said the Chinese Super League match will be played on September 19. The association said Greenland Shenhua had sought the delay after its home stadium, Hongkou Football Stadium, caught fire last month.

It said Shandong Luneng had agreed to the postponement.

A fire broke out at the Hongkou stadium on March 28, partially damaging the stadium’s roof as well as its power supply system.
The CFA note said power had not yet been restored at the stadium.

It is Shenhua’s second home match to be affected by the fire. Earlier its match against Changchun Yatai, which was previously scheduled for April 16, was played in Changchun in Jilin Province as an away fixture on April 15.

Shenhua will play its home match against Changchun at Hongkou on August 5.

Greenland Shenhua is currently fifth in the 16-team CSL standing with 10 points from six matches.
