Shanghai conference highlights role of business and management in sports

“MANAGING The Game,” a football and sports business themed conference was held in Shanghai this week with experts sharing their ideas on financial and operative management in related industries.

The conference was jointly organized by UK-based education institution UCFB and Deloitte. Among the speakers were UCFB chief Philip Wilson, UCFB joint founder Paul Fletcher MBE, and Wembley Stadium’s business development chief Jim Frayling.

UCFB is a Higher Education institution offering undergraduate and postgraduate university degrees and executive education in football-related business, sport and events industries. After setting up an office in Shanghai, UCFB plans to launch a branch in China in the future to help cultivate football and sports management talents.

Paul Fletcher talked about the 100 years of history of Britain’s football stadiums, government’s role in stadium management, the ownership and design of Europe’s football stadiums.

Jim Frayling highlighted the commercial mode of the Wembley National Stadium, as well as experiences in staging big-scale events including the Olympic Games and NFL matches.

As UCFB’s football operation director, Jason Blake introduced Britain’s youth football development and academies, including young players’ selection, coaching and life management.
