Sakho’s Reds future in doubt after ‘send-off’

MAMADOU Sakho faces an uncertain future at Liverpool after the defender was sent back to England from the Premier League club’s preseason tour of the United States.
According to British media reports, manager Juergen Klopp was unhappy with the 26-year-old’s attitude during their stay in California and ordered his return to Liverpool.
Sakho angered the German manager by turning up late for Liverpool’s flight to the US while last weekend he interrupted Klopp as the coach was conducting an interview with the club website, the reports said.
The France international, who was recently cleared by UEFA after allegations of a failed drugs test, is currently nursing an Achilles injury.
He will continue receiving treatment at Melwood, the club’s training ground, and is expected to miss the start of the Premier League season, which begins on August 13.
Liverpool, meanwhile, has lost midfielder Joe Allen as Stoke City signed the Wales international on a five-year deal, the two Premier League clubs announced on Monday.
Stoke paid 13 million pounds (US$17 million) to make Allen the club’s second signing of the preseason after tying up a deal for Egyptian teenager Ramadan Sobhi earlier in the day.
Allen was named in UEFA’s team of the tournament as Wales reached the semifinals of Euro 2016, but the 26-year-old struggled for playing time under Klopp at Anfield last season.
“It’s been a whirlwind 48 hours for me but I am delighted to have finally been able to put pen to paper,” Allen told Stoke’s official website.
“I was really excited as soon as I heard of the club’s interest and it wasn’t a difficult decision for me to make.”
Allen, who will wear the No. 4 shirt, flew out to Orlando along with Sobhi yesterday to join his new teammates.
