SIPG targeting at league and cup titles

SHANGHAI SIPG expressed its solution of winning a title from the remaining two battle fields of the Chinese Super League and the CFA Cup after being eliminated from this year’s AFC Champions League.

Andre Villas-Boas’ team lost 0-1 to Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds in their second leg semifinal match in Saitama, Japan, on Wednesday. The J-League side therefore advanced to the final of the Asian league on a 2-1 aggregate win and will take on Saudi giants al-Hilal for the championship.

“We want to thank the 600 fans who made the trip to Japan to support us, as well as the over 100 SIPG followers who are based in Japan,” the club said in a post through its Weibo account. “Though we could not achieve the goal of winning a title in the AFC league, the club has never given up, and will try out best on the other two battle fields and present our fans with a satisfying result.”

Over 200 SIPG followers showed up at the club’s monthly fan’s gathering on Wednesday evening to watch the club’s away match. Interactive activities have been organized including a group birthday celebration for fans whose birthdays fall in October.
