SIPG steps up hunt for youth talent

SHANGHAI SIPG yesterday unveiled a list of 12 schools and youth football training organizations around the country that will be its talent-raising partners, as the club seeks to further bolster its youth ranks.
According to the “Infinite Future” program launched by the Chinese Super League side last November, the club would set up training bases in schools known for their effort in cultivating students’ interest in football. The club would provide coaching support to the schools or training organizations, and the latter would spot and select young talents for SIPG’s youth teams.
“Together with the 11 partners announced last year, the club now has 23 training bases around the country,” said Sui Guoyang, club general manager. “Youth players are the key to a club’s long-term development.”
The newly named 12 partners are schools and organizations based in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shanxi, Hubei, and Sichuan provinces. SIPG will invite high-profile experts, including former women’s national team captain Sun Wen, to give lectures and courses to teaching staff at the training bases.
SIPG has five players in China’s national team — the second most among all CSL clubs.
“‘Infinite Future’ aims at building the club’s youth player supply system, so that we can produce our own star players in the future,” said Sui.
