Rafa relief as Napoli nets points at Sassuolo

NAPOLI secured a 1-0 victory at Sassuolo in Italian Serie A yesterday to ease the pressure slightly on coach Rafa Benitez.

Jose Callejon scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute when he was on hand at the back post to tap in Gonzalo Higuain’s cross.

Sassuolo almost snatched a late equalizer but Federico Peluso’s deflected effort crashed off the crossbar.

The pressure had been mounting on Benitez, who had guided the southern club to just two wins in seven matches in all competitions this season.

Napoli had just one point in its last three Serie A matches.

Inter Milan vs Cagliari and Cesena vs AC Milan are among the later matches.

Juventus and AS Roma both maintained their perfect start to the season with victories on Saturday.

Defending champion Juventus won 3-0 at Atalanta, with Argentine striker Carlos Tevez striking either side of half-time to move top of the scoring charts in Italy with his third and fourth goals of the campaign after Roma won 2-0 against Hellas Verona earlier in the day.

Alvaro Morata headed home a late third with seven minutes left of a match that hinged on a missed penalty by the hosts when at 1-0.

“It’s a great victory because Roma had won and we were in a position where we had to win which is not easy,” said coach Massimiliano Allegri.
