New CSL push for youth players
EACH Chinese Super League and Chinese League One club will have to pick the same number of Under-23 players as their foreign counterparts for a match starting from next season, the Chinese Football Association announced late last night.
The latest policy aims at further improving the ability of young domestic players and encourage clubs to invest in the younger generation, the CFA said, adding that a more detailed plan will be issued later.
Currently, at most three foreign players from one team are allowed for each league or CFA Cup match. The new policy means any club making full use of the quota will also have to pick three U23 players for a match.
Told about the new policy, Shanghai SIPG manager Andre Villas-Boas said that he will wait for the official notice before making any comments.
