Milan hopeful of Champs spot
AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo is confident the Rossoneri will finish top four and clinch a Champions League spot in the coming season.
Milan will take on Real Madrid in an International Champions Cup match at Shanghai Stadium today.
“It will be a very difficult game. We played against each other six months ago. The new coach (Sinisa Mihajlovic) is getting the best from the team,” said Montolivo. “We are expecting more signings and hope to advance to the Champions League next season.”
Montolivo was speaking during a ceremony yesterday when Milan signed a sponsorship deal with GKFX, an online trading company. The London-based company will become the official online FX partner of the Serie A side, acquiring extensive marketing and promotional rights including presence across the club’s global digital channels.
“We are proud to be partnering a global giant of football like AC Milan,” said Serkan Arli, GKFX Group CEO. “AC Milan is not only a big name in China, but also in Asia, which is valued by the group.”
The deal is reportedly worth nearly 10 million yuan (US$1.61 million), though no specific figure was given.
Milan’s first 2015 International Champions Cup match was against local rival Inter Milan in Shenzhen on Saturday. A brilliant goal from Philippe Mexes secured a 1-0 victory over the old enemy.
Milan will also compete in the Audi Cup in Germany early next month and will compete in at least two more pre-season matches before the start of the new Serie A season.
