Hulk lands in Shanghai to complete SIPG deal

BRAZIL international Hulk arrived in Shanghai for a medical before completing a potential move to Shanghai SIPG though the Chinese Super League is yet to decide on which foreign player the striker will replace.
The former Zenit St Petersburg player arrived in Shanghai yesterday morning and was welcomed by SIPG fans and club officials at Pudong International Airport. According to club general manager Sui Guoyang, the contract would be signed after Hulk clears his medical tests.
SIPG did not reveal the transfer fee, but Russian media reported that the 4-year deal is worth more than 55 million euros (US$61 million), beating the previous CSL transfer record of 50-million euro set by Hulk’s compatriot Alex Teixeira, when the midfielder joined Jiangsu Suning from Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk.
According to Russian media, the striker, who will turn 30 next month, will reportedly receive an annual salary of at least 10.5 million euros, as well as a 2-million euro bonus if he scores at least 15 goals in a season.
The Brazilian international was the Russian Premier League’s top scorer in the 2014-15 season with 15 goals.
Sui said team coaches would decide which foreign player would be replaced following Hulk’s arrival, since the club already has the maximum five foreign players on it roll. The team was in Guangzhou yesterday for a China FA Cup match, which it lost 0-1 to Guangzhou R&F.
Hulk, or Givanildo Vieira de Sousa, made his name with Porto in Portugal. He represented Brazil in the country’s victorious 2013 Confederation Cup campaign as well as the 2014 World Cup on home soil when Brazil finished fourth.
SIPG, coached by former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, currently lies fourth in the CSL standings following a five-match winless streak.
