Hannover rallies to stun Schalke

SCHALKE let a one-goal lead slip by conceding twice in three minutes to lose to Hannover 1-2 in the opening round of the German Bundesliga yesterday.

Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar opened the scoring two minutes into the second half, but Edgar Prib equalized for Hannover in the 67th, three minutes before he broke quickly and set up Joselu for what proved to be the winning goal.

Schalke crashed out of the German Cup after losing to third-division Dynamo Dresden 2-1 on Monday.

Also yesterday, promoted Cologne could only draw 0-0 with Hamburger SV, Eintracht Frankfurt beat visiting SC Freiburg 1-0, Werder Bremen came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim defeated Augsburg 2-0 at home.

Borussia Dortmund was hosting Bayer Leverkusen later. Champion Bayern Munich made a winning start on Friday, beating VfL Wolfsburg 2-1.
