Ba surgeon in upbeat prediction

DEMBA Ba’s surgeon is confident that the Senegal striker will return to competition, saying his team of doctors had the experience of performing such operations.

French surgeon Olivier Bringer arrived in Shanghai yesterday afternoon and went straight to Putuo District People’s Hospital, where the Shanghai Greenland Shenhua player has been since his injury, suffered during a Chinese Super League derby against SIPG, on Sunday.

“I know Ba is doing well in this club, and I’m sure he will be able to recover and play football again,” Bringer said. “In a few months, he will have the possibility of making a comeback. He is a tough guy and I’m sure he will be able to go over this difficulty.”

The surgery for Ba’s fractured leg has been scheduled at 8am tomorrow, when Bringer will be assisted by experts from Huashan Hospital.

“We are used to such surgeries,” he said. “My team’s done it many times in France. We’ve also worked with Real Madrid, so we are experienced.”

In Ba’s absence, Shenhua lost 1-2 away to Shijiazhuang Ever Bright in Hebei Province in the CSL last night.

Nigerian Obafemi Martins scored for Shenhua in the 18th minute. However, former Shenhua player Mao Jianqing and Zhao Rongheng replied in the second half to steal victory for Shijiazhuang.
