O’Sullivan eases into 2nd round
DEFENDING champion Ronnie O’Sullivan began his quest for a sixth world title with a comfortable 10-4 first-round win over Finland’s Robin Hull at Sheffield’s Crucible Theater on Saturday.
“I’m just pleased to have got through,” said O’Sullivan.
“It was a tough match, I knew I’d have to play decent snooker to win. Robin’s a good scorer and strong in the tactical game. I’m just here to do a job and I go about it as professionally as I can.”
Lifting the world championship trophy for a sixth time would see ‘The Rocket’ draw level with one-time mentor Ray Reardon and Steve Davis while leaving him one shy of Scottish great Stephen Hendry’s record of seven world titles. But this year’s tournament could see O’Sullivan become the first player since Hendry, who won five successive world championships, to take the title three years running.
