Defending champ O’Sullivan to skip UK Championship
Ronnie O’Sullivan will not defend his title at the UK Championship in York, which starts next month, governing body World Snooker said yesterday.
The five-time champion failed to register before Wednesday’s deadline, meaning he will be absent from the line-up at the Barbican Centre in the northern English city. O’Sullivan, 39, edged Judd Trump 10-9 in last December’s final, but has not played in a tour event since his quarterfinal loss to eventual champion Stuart Bingham at the world championship last April. “The deadline for entering the tournament was yesterday and Ronnie has not entered, so he will not be competing in York,” said a World Snooker spokesman. The UK Championship runs from November 24 to December 6.
